Low Buy In Year
01 Feb 10

Back in the days when it seemed like only the true professional poker players were the ones who were contesting the biggest tournaments in the world, buy ins to big tournaments seemed so far and distant. Poker pros would ram up their bankroll by constantly playing cash games and be able to buy in to these $5000 or $10,000 tournaments since it was their day job to do so.

Check in to reality and suddenly you still have these big buy in tournaments that are $10,000 but the fields have exploded with satelliters and amateurs all riding the thrill of it all through online poker tournaments. Suddenly the prestigious poker tournaments are not won by poker regulars anymore, but by young twenty year olds looking for a quick ticket to stardom.

Having a look at 2009, the World Series of Poker had many $1,000 buy in tournaments. A buy in that is usually ignored by most online pros, but is within reach of the amateur who wants to taste playing in the world series. The reports are that they were so popular that management is increasing the number of $1,000 buy in tournaments since they were so happy with the turnout. So now we have the year where we have even more amateurs turning up to toss it in at the big tournaments, hoping that a big win will give their bankroll a big enough shot through to being a poker pro.
