The United States could prove to be the largest online gambling market in the world, but the government has been slow in regulating Internet gambling. Canada, however, is working overtime within its provinces to legalise the industry within its borders and beating the U.S. to the punch.

In the United States, California and New Jersey have lawmakers discussing the regulation of online poker. Although proposals have been offered, neither state has taken the step yet to legalise and regulate online poker.

As for the rest of the world, it seems to be jumping ahead the United States in regard to regulating Internet gambling. It is believed that if the U.S waits too long, the potential customer base could move business to other countries, including Canada when efforts to legalise online gambling are completed. For instance, there are millions of U.S. players spending their money on a number of online poker websites and the U.S. government is not taking advantage of any of the revenue that is being generated.
